A site about getting into places has to be readable, so this is what the desk does. The pages are plain HTML with no scripts at all, so they work with a keyboard, with a screen reader and with scripts blocked. The type is set in fonts that already live on the reader's machine, so nothing is downloaded from another company and nothing waits on a font. The text grows to twice its size without loss of content or function, and the layout does not scroll sideways at 360 pixels.
Colour is chosen so that the body text holds a contrast ratio of at least 4.5 to 1 against its background, and the focus ring is visible on every link and control. Headings run in order, images carry a description of the scene rather than a file name, and links say where they lead. A reader who has asked their system for reduced motion gets none. The site is served over HTTPS.
No conformance claim is made. The desk tests what it can, on the browsers and the assistive technology it has access to, and it says here what it has not tested rather than claiming a level. A reader who meets a barrier on these pages is asked to write to contact@access-gateshead.org.uk and describe it, and the barrier is treated as a fault of the site, not of the reader.
